A Missionary in Russia - 1997-98

I was a missionary for a year and a half in Russia in the late 90's during a time when there was kind of a Great Awakening back to Christianity and faith.  I met some people during that time whose families had been among the stalwart few who openly embraced faith during the cruel Soviet years.  I felt inspired by these Christian dissidents as well as amazed that I only met one atheist out of thousands of people in post-Soviet Russia, even after 70 years of atheism enforced by the government. It was remarkable to me that the vast majority of people I met in Russia were either believers in God or open to the possibility.

Connecting Some Dots

A few years after I defended my Master's thesis, I noticed something strange.  I began to see the very same anti-religious tactics I had researched in-depth for my thesis, happening here in America.  The idea for my book "Beneath Sheep's Clothing" was born.  I researched and wrote about 70% of the book between 2009-2011, but then set it aside as I felt something was missing, I didn't know what, and I needed to focus on other endeavors.

In 2021, I decided it was now or never to finally finish "Beneath Sheep's Clothing".  I spent 3 months in early 2022 solely engaged in this pursuit.  Even I was shocked at what I found - the anti-religious tactics I had observed years before were not just a little worse in 2022, they were exponentially more advanced.  It was as if America had gone from a Stage 2 Cancer patient to a Stage 5 in that amount of time.  Exactly 20 years after I had begun research for my Master's thesis, I finally published "Beneath Sheep's Clothing."
