The Making of "Beneath Sheep's Clothing", the Movie
The Genesis of the Film
The night I self-published my book "Beneath Sheep's Clothing" on Amazon, after 20 years of research and years of toil (I don't really like writing), I thought I was going to sleep really well. I had finally put something out to the world that I had felt called to do. Now I could rest well. Only that night I was awake until 4 AM and, in my mind's eye, I kept seeing things from my book in a cinematic format. It felt like I was being shown the next step - make a video or something with concepts from my book. I said a prayer and asked God that if he wanted me to make some sort of video like this, to please send me someone who could work with video.
I was approached by a documentary filmmaker - Steve Sorensen - on Facebook just a few weeks later. I had no money, no connections, and few resources. But we slowly began working on "Beneath Sheep's Clothing", the movie. In the first year with no funding, we completed two interviews - with myself and Alex Newman (filmed November 2022) - and an early trailer.
Big Breakthrough
A big breakthrough in the film's production came when James Lindsay agreed to be a part of the film. I interviewed him for the film (the first time) in June 2023. It was easy to get Trevor Loudon and other heavy hitters on board after mentioning that James was in the film.
But we still needed money. Jason and Alexia Preston, who had participated in a public event with James Lindsay that we held in southern Utah, offered to host a fundraiser event for the film. It was at this fundraiser that we met who would become the film's Executive Producer and financier.
Once funding came through, we could breathe - but not for long. Even though at this point I had interviewed 6 of the biggest interviews, we still had more interviews to complete and the reenactments to film.
Interviews & Reenactments
I greatly enjoyed interviewing each and every person for Beneath Sheep's Clothing, and I learned so much from these interviews. Only a small portion of each interview made it into the film. Thank goodness we have Extended Interviews available!
But nothing was more fun for me than the entire process of producing our reenactment footage for the film. We got real Soviet school uniforms from the former Soviet Union, real Young Pioneer neckerchiefs, real Lenin pins. And our teacher and crew of child actors delivered!
One of the highlights of the reenactments, for me, was actually driving to the location for filming and Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" came on the radio. I sang along with "We don't need no education ...." and laughed my head off.
I'm Grateful to a Lot of People!
I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who everyone who made "Beneath Sheep's Clothing" possible, and who made it not just a video as I originally envisioned, but an award-winning and critically-acclaimed documentary that many who have seen call a MUST SEE!
From the cumulative research and experience from all those I interviewed, to Cristhian Palacios backing it financially and providing crucial guidance, to Steve Sorensen throwing himself into the film even before I could pay him anything - and for those who have donated money or provided much-needed support - I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart!
Lastly, I thank the viewers of the film who have shared it with others in the hopes that the message of the film is carried far and wide! I believe it's a worthy message, and I hope you will take the time to watch it. The film is not for children due to the intense nature of the content, but it is for every parent, every Christian, and every person who cares about freedom.
